STOCKHOLM, Oct 8 (Reuters) - U.S. scientist John Hopfield and British-Canadian Geoffrey Hinton won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics on Tuesday for discoveries and inventions in machine learning that paved the way for the artificial intelligence boom.

Two scientists who used physics to help develop methods used to build modern machine learning were honored with the 2024 Nobel Prize in the field.

The pair were honoured "for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks," the jury said
