Voice assistant Alexa is expected to get a major artificial intelligence upgrade from Amazon tomorrow, and it could change how we interact with this popular piece of smart home tech. Amazon is hosting an event in New York on Feb.

Amazon is holding a press event this week, where we expect it to finally launch its “new” Alexa. This could be the beginning of a major shift in how we use generative AI in our homes, or it could be a big disappointment.

An improved Follow-up Mode could see Alexa asking clarifying questions, making real-time suggestions, and allow for better Routine configuration, wherein the user can ask Alexa to ask a clarifying question mid-way through a Routine that creates different pathways for executing the rest of the steps.

Amazon's February Devices event will kick off at 10 am ET on Wednesday, February 25 in New York. As with most of its events, it will not be live-streamed, but Tom's Guide will be live-blogging the event. According to the invite, Amazon SVP Panos Panay and the Amazon Devices & Services team will be on hand.

Amazon won’t launch the AI-powered upgrade for Alexa for at least a month after its showcase at an event set for February 26th, according to The Washington Post. The delay is reportedly at least partly because the updated assistant has issues with giving inaccurate answers to test questions.

According to internal messages seen by The Washington Post, the public release of the new Alexa has been pushed back by a month. An unnamed Amazon employee told the publication that it may not arrive until March 31 or later, as Alexa still seems to be struggling to give accurate answers to test questions.
