There were tornadoes in Florida before Hurricane Milton even made landfall. One destroyed homes for miles Wednesday afternoon in Indian River County’s Vero Beach area. Mandy Reese said she was terrified when she realized one was closing in.

Hurricane Milton ravaged Central Florida as a Category 3 storm, then moved across the state, destroying homes, causing floods and spawning tornadoes.

Impacts to the area could change depending on Milton's trajectory across the state and where it makes landfall.

Wednesday "was a historic and tragic day on the Treasure Coast," said Indian River County Emergency Management Coordinator Ryan Lloyd during a Thursday morning briefing at the county Emergency Operations Center.
