The Internet Archive came back online for users Monday evening after almost two full weeks of being unavailable following an attack on Oct. 8 that exposed the fact that hackers had stolen sensitive data from millions of users.

Because the hacker just responded to Mashable's email that we went to the Internet Archive to find out more about the hack. The hacker was able to respond via Internet Archive's Zendesk, an online service that helps companies respond to users' support queries.

News of the DDoS attack (which stands for “Distributed Denial of Service”) broke on October 9, when users attempting to access the Wayback Machine were met with a JavaScript alert that read: “Have you ever felt like the Internet Archive runs on sticks and is constantly on the verge of suffering a catastrophic security breach?

As the Internet Archive was preparing to disclose a data breach, it has also been swamped by DDoS attacks. I can not fathom what the Internet Archive has done to earn such wrath. A generally helpful service that offers everything from a snapshot of the web's past to ROMs for old video games,

The Internet archive known as "The Wayback Machine" of past data, has suffered from a massive data breach. Threat actors reportedly stole 31 million passwords.
