People on social media are discovering they received an unexpectedly large sum of money from a Juul electronic cigarette class-action lawsuit. Some consumers who used Juul vaping products say they have begun receiving payouts as part of major class-action lawsuit settlements, the last of which was finalized earlier this year. A number of social media users said they received payments,

Juul and Altria, which owns 35% of Juul, were accused of misleading consumers about the e-cigarettes’ addictiveness and safety.

Juul agreed to a $255 million settlement last year, while the tobacco giant Altria — which invested in Juul — also agreed to pay $45 million. People who purchased Juul products before December 7th, 2022, were able to submit a claim.

The $300 million class action lawsuit against JUUL has sparked interest among both consumers and e-cigarette users. Initial interest in the controversy surrounding JUUL kicked off with Netflix’s Big Vape: The Rise and Fall of Juul in 2023.
